5G LTE router - speed up your mobile internet

Types of wireless internet

Mobile Internet access has grown alongside and in parallel with mobile voice services. It can be assumed that such services were realistically available in Poland as early as the early 2000s. Since then, new, faster and more common standards have appeared every few years.

Out of chronicling duty, let's mention the first mobile Internet access technologies, namely GPRS (50 kbps) and EDGE/2G (approx. 1 Mbit/s). Subsequent versions, namely HSPA and HSPA+/3G (approx. 28 Mbit/s) are services still in use and provide Internet access almost throughout the country.

However, access to the global network at a level that allows "normal" use (or perhaps to challenge fixed technologies) is only provided by LTE/4G technology (up to 300 Mbit/s). It can be assumed that these services are available in all major cities and their neighborhoods and are offered by all national operators.

Naturally, we are talking about theoretical speeds, obtained in the laboratory. In real-world conditions, throughput depends on many factors (distance from the antenna, saturation of resources in the area, terrain obstacles, interference, and even weather) and in practice does not exceed approx. 50 Mbit/s.

How to speed up mobile internet

The newest and most exciting service is 5G, which already enables Internet access at speeds of up to 600 Mbit/s, and this is not the last word, as up to 10 Gbit/s is expected to be possible eventually.

5G services are currently offered by all major mobile network operators, but only in major cities, and not all of them. What is gratifying, however, is the fact that the speeds actually achieved reach 300 Mbit/sec. So it's safe to say that switching to the latest mobile technology is already making a noticeable difference.

You can use the new mobile services not only with your phone. If you need to connect more computers to the Internet, use the following 5G router. When choosing a device, it is essential to pay attention to the fact that it has enough computing power to handle not only the links with the speeds offered today, but also faster ones that will be available in the near future. On the other hand, the device should also provide the ability to use slower connections, such as LTE and others, in case the network needs to be moved to a location where 5G is not yet available.

A good 5G LTE router should also have a powerful Wi-Fi wireless interface and possibly a gigabit switch so that the laptops, phones and other devices connected to it can actually use the modern connection at full speed. For this purpose, you should be interested in devices equipped with at least Wi-Fi 5, and preferably Wi-Fi 6.

These parameters and features are included in all currently offered FRITZ routers!Box, especially those equipped with a built-in 5G modem.
