Smart home - what is it?

The smart home (smart. Smart Home) is where home automation is used, i.e. electronic sensors and controllers that manage various functions of the house for example heating, lighting or switching on and off various household appliances.

Sometimes home automation is designed and installed from new by the developer, carrying out the construction of a house or apartment block, but smart home systems that comprise it can also be successfully installed later, using individual adapters.

Smart home realized with FRITZ products! consists of a central FRITZ router!Box with built-in DECT base and different types of adapters, designed to perform tasks, programmed in the router.

For the FRITZ smart home system! you can also log selected smart terminals from other vendors, it is important that they are based on the DECT protocol. The systems and individual devices that make up a smart home communicate with each other precisely via DECT wireless technology, familiar from telephone applications. DECT-based smart home systems have significant advantages over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi smart home versions. A definite advantage is the better range, which is up to several hundred meters in open terrain, while indoors it is about 50 meters of range. These devices additionally operate in the 1900 MHz band, making them insensitive to interference from Wi-Fi networks operating nearby.

Filling the smart home with devices (up to 30 units.) can perform a number of useful functions for example:

• Control the switching on and off of devices, connected to the smart plug, based on a set schedule, or depending on the level of noise, such as on a clap, or temperature, etc.
• Control of CO radiator based on schedule, measured temperature, with automatic detection of window opening, etc.
• Lighting control (on/off, brightness intensity, color change and the like).

The important thing is that all devices and sensors communicate with each other so that, thanks to the settings, they can work in a specific way, reading from another temperature or humidity parameters.

Equipped with smart home systems, based on FRITZ devices! allows for easy management of all components through the configuration interface of the FRITZ router!Box, we use the interface, among other things, through a web browser. Such an opportunity is also provided by a proprietary, free app for Android or iOS. We can manage locally from home, but also remotely over the Internet via a secure VPN connection. You can also use programmable wireless multifunction buttons to conveniently control smart devices.

An armed smart home means not only convenience, but also heat and electricity savings, as appliances can, for example, be automatically turned off at night, for vacations or absences when they are certainly not needed. Thanks to smart plugs, you can finally keep track of the amount of energy consumed (instantaneous measurement and over a given period, along with statistics), so that you can approach saving methodically.

Enriched with a branded and router-integrated smart system, the home can also get a new shine with technological styling.
