What is a router?

Router is a network device whose primary task is to mediate the transmission of data packets between two (or more) computer networks. The Internet router is no exception: its job is to transfer data between the global network, i.e. the Internet, and the local computer network in the home or business.

In the case of Internet routers, their type and application are determined by the types of network interfaces they have. These interfaces adapted to connect a variety of Internet access services, such as xDSL, cable TV network, fiber optic cable, Ethernet cable, LTE and others. More sophisticated routers may also offer the ability to connect a couple of different types of access simultaneously.

A home router is usually a slightly different device than a business router, but even for small offices, devices as advanced and versatile as the FRITZ!Box, they will successfully prove themselves in both home and business applications.
