A brief history of the Internet

The origins of today's Internet date back to the 1960s. In the 1970s, when the ARPANET network was being developed at U.S. research institutes to enable data transfer between universities. The really turbulent development of the global network, however, began in the 1980s., when the foundations were laid for services to practically exploit the possibility of data transfer, such as WWW, FTP, email, Usenet, etc. AVM's beginnings (1986.) coincide with this dynamic growth of the Network, and FRITZ products! have a stake in it. Let's take a brief look at the history of the Internet with FRITZ! amid.
The era of dial-up Internet
AVM unveiled its first modem, enabling dial-up Internet access for home and business users in 1995. FRITZ!Card - The ISDN adapter on the PCI bus allowed 128 Kbps over both channels of the digital telephone network, while analog modems achieved 33.6 - 56 Kbps. AVM has conquered the German ISDN modem market - in 2004, 8 out of 10 cards sold there carried the FRITZ logo!
ADSL - digital subscriber line: fixed Internet over telephone cable
As the Internet grew, so did users' appetite for ever-higher speeds and continuous access, which dial-up methods did not provide. To this end, xDSL technology was developed, based on the most popular medium at the time, which was copper telephone wires, and did not interfere with voice services. First adsl router from AVM, supporting the new type of access had its premiere at the CEBIT trade fair in 2004, already carried the familiar name FRITZ!Box and had a built-in ADSL modem, two LAN ports and one USB port.
