What is known about WiFi 7

Wireless technologies are growing at a staggering rate. We've barely settled on WiFi 6, and WiFi 7 is already on the horizon. What will surprise us with the latest standard, which is announced for release at the end of 2023?

WiFi standard 802.11be, or Wi-Fi 7

What is WiFi 7? The new technology will be (at least in theory) several times faster than Wi-Fi 6. The devices, based on the latest WiFi 7 standard are expected to reach close to 50 Gbps. Although wiFi specification 7 to be officially approved in early 2024, the first demonstration devices from the leading vendors of specialized microprocessors for wireless transmission (Qualcomm, Broadcomm and Intel) show an acceleration of about 60% compared to the existing standard.

WiFi 6 a WiFi 7

Wifi standard 802.11be is largely based on its predecessor 802.11ax and its development, called WiFi 6E, but nevertheless brings fundamental changes. A new feature is the use of a third frequency band: in addition to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, 6 GHz also comes into play. Also new will be the ability to use all bands simultaneously in a single transmission, depending on the current network situation. In addition, the higher throughput will be influenced by the greater width of radio channels (320 Mhz), as well as the use of 4KQAM modulation.

What WiFi 7 gives you in addition to higher throughput? Differences between WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 also concern the comfort of use, previously known from Mesh-enabled networks: depending on the current conditions, prevailing in the network, the devices are supposed to select the appropriate bands or their combination by themselves, even during the ongoing transmission, in order to obtain the maximum bandwidth.

The release date of the first FRITZ routers is not yet known!, supporting WiFi 4, however, it is to be expected that this the latest technology from FRITZ! will be implemented in a familiar, user-friendly way, allowing it to grow with free software updates.
