What is Zigbee?
Zigbee is a manufacturer-independent wireless standard that is used in many Smart Home devices. Zigbee devices connect to each other and form their own Mesh network, so the range of individual devices is not critical. It is important that each device is in contact with at least one other Zigbee device. To control Zigbee devices, you need a gateway, for example FRITZ!Smart Gateway. Zigbee uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band (similar to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) and the license-free ISM radio band around 868 MHz and has a theoretical range of up to 100 meters indoors. This range is greater than that of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi devices.
Zigbee in FRITZ devices! Smart Home - how it works
Adding Zigbee to FRITZ! Smart Home is simple: connect FRITZ!Smart Gateway for FRITZ!Box (with FRITZ!OS 7.50 or later) via LAN or Wi-Fi. Supported Zigbee devices can be connected to the FRITZ Smart Home via the FRITZ user interface!Smart Gateway. Zigbee devices are then available with familiar Smart Home features: direct control via user interface, FRITZ!App Smart Home, FRITZ!Fon or FRITZ smart switch!DECT 440, as well as integration of Zigbee devices with FRITZ templates, scenarios and routines!. Zigbee devices can be switched together with FRITZ Smart Home devices.
